What am I worth to an employer?

Hi all,

I'm wondering what daily wage I should be recieving as a self employed electrician working mainly for 1 guy, London and Surrey.

I have level 2 and 3 C&G NVQs which I finished a couple of years ago but do not have 2391 testing and inspection. I have worked in electrical wholesale for 3 years previously so I have very good product knowledge. As an electrician I have 6 months experience mainly in domestics, finally got my head around lighting and now feel I could rewire a property on my own. I have a car and full set of hand tools and drills. Guess I would describe myself as an electricians mate rather than an apprentice

That really depends on what you can turn out. Your experience is limited, but if you can do the work you should get an decent rate. London prices are high anyway.

What would you call a decent rate Dave? Would be nice to earn what I can earn at a wholesalers! I wouldn't call myself slow but not fast yet either - Just making sure I do things the right way and speed will come

i'd say £10/hour as a mate. £15/hour if you are completing work unsupervised ( travel time included and any parking/ congestion charges on top). this is a minimum that you should aim for.

It's not often I work unsupervised, just few days here and there. £10/hour is a figure I would be happy with for the time being, perhaps I will make the suggestion. Parking is paid
