Hi,

I'm looking for some advice please. I'm not an electrician but have employed a registered qualified one to do some work for me and want to know what certification/paperwork I should make sure I get? I have not had significant electric work done before so not fully sure how it all works.

The following work is being done:
  • Replace consumer unit
  • Connect heated towel radiator
  • Connect bathroom fan
  • Add external socket

I think the consumer unit needs an "EIC" but does this also cover the rest of the work of done together or should I be getting separate certificates for each? Would these be minor works certificates? Also what should I expect to happen with Building Control? Do they issue something separately or is that the EIC?

Thanks

The new consumer unit needs an EIC ( electrical installation cert ) and will need notification under Part Pee

The items simply connected up like a towel heater need no paperwork

The new sockets / outside socket will need a MWC ( minor works )

In my opinion a job is not complete until the all the paperwork trail is complete

EIC if the outside socket is a new circuit fed directly from the fuse board. MWC if it’s fed from an existing circuit

I was also wondering if the towel rail / extractor fan were new supplies or simply connecting accessories to existing points - in other words should any special location work be added to part P notification.

Towel rail is a new spur and fan was a replacement but needed the wires changing. Both outside of the bathroom zones to the best of my understanding.
