I hear what you're saying and for the most part agree but; youth of today are products of yesterday's planning.

What I mean is that decisions made by older generations shaped the behave we have now;

Examples; Smacking, now all but policed by older generatons decisions/laws and as a result a complete loss of respect or manners

Attitudes to work; Because the likes of wages and worker protection hasn't moved with the time we now have zero-hour contracts resulting in no stability to plan for the future, we have employers with the power (in spite of the various worker protections - ZH jobs are perfect for businesses and nightmares for workers.

Wages not reflecting the value of the job being done; push a broom in a supermarket: minimum wage, study and get a trade; minimum wage. It seems even when you take time to better yourself there is little to no financial benefit to do so either because the qualifications are meaningless (how many have degrees and no job?) or that the market is so saturated with the same qualifications that they are worthless.

Crime; Once again those in power (majority older generations) have done little to maintain the "back on my day" behaviours (manners, respect for the law etc) that they say are lacking today.

While I agree with most about the behaviour s and attitudes of youth today, I'm not suprised.
Lister I agree with you that’s why I started on my kids at 18 that it’s time to grow up and go to work and I have to say I have one son whose a Captain of Police and my other son is an electrician at the airport

All joking apart it's gone badly wrong since discipline was removed. Even in the animal world mothers discipline there pups etc.

I'm not on about caning and thick ears etc (though some kids certainly do need that) I'm on about discipline to build respect.
In a lot of ways fear is needed to keep us safe, the problem we have now is the kids think they are invincible because they sit playing computer games where for most of the time they are hero's saving the world in one format or another.

Consequences have near enough been removed. There are no consequences anymore. You try and discipline a kid today and they go straight home and tell there mum. The next thing you know there's a 25 stone woman screaming at you on your doorstep.
God knows what would happen if another war ever broke out and everybody was called up to fight. I guess the war would only be fought between 10:30am - 1:30pm three days a week cuz they would be to busy doing something else any other time, and even then they would only attend if you promise to give them a hundred quid a day and promise them they wont get there new Nike Air's dirty.

I know there are some out there who are keen and want to learn stuff, and more than likely they are the ones reading this forum because they are keen on learning.

I never could get through to my stepson and he got on drugs bad and has been in prison for 5 years. He gets out in June and I pray he has his crap together

Ten years or so ago we had a lad, well late twenties working for us. All seemed fine for six months or so then for no apparent reason he just turned. One day the office get a phone call from a disgruntled homeowner as to why one of our vans was parked on her drive!! Turns out he had had enough, found a train station and dumped the van on the local housing estate and put the keys through her door, absolutely true.

Westward I cannot day I’m not shocked about the van. I sent some guys to Miami or a job and I got a call that one of them stole the company truck got some drugs and didn’t come back till 2 days later. Needless to say I fired him and told the supervisor on the job to put his butt on a bus and send him packing

I read a book called 'First light' by Geoff Welham. 1940 and a spitfire pilot at 18/19 flying head on into a formation of Heinkels, closing speed around 500mph, letting off a rapid burst, stick back and over the top just before colliding. And then round for a second go.
Can you imagine any of todays 'yoof' doing that? They'd be too busy taking selfies and deciding what gender they were feeling today.

Yes there way of what you just stated is doing that on a video game LOL

I agree with the viewpoint, that we all look back through rose tinted specs. The only thing that isn't consisted is the things we play around with as kids, and how we grow up from there. As a young child, I was allowed out allowed out till tea time during holidays (with no mobile phone and no landline in the house) and watched The High Chaparral on BBC 2, till their signal failed at 8.pm. Then it was bed.

When I was young, and when the street lights come on it’s time to go home

Some good and interesting replies guys, thanks. It is important as well to remember it isnt all down the young generation, I do realise that something as gone seriously wrong with the world.
Take the car industry as a example, one of my electricians who more than earns his wage every week is only 25 but has a great work ethic and nothing is to much effort for him but he recently got a new car, now we are talking a 4 series M sport BMW worth 45k, sounds great doesnt it but the sad fact is it will never be his car because it's one of those lease deals so he put a small deposit down, pays for 3 years then either needs to find a serious chunk of money or hands it back.
And there lies the problem my first car was 150.00
But a lad of say 21 upwards can walk into a showroom and walk out with a car that most people can only dream of, why would the youth of today have any respect when it would seem they can have anything they want as soon as they want.

Without a doubt you are correct, my post was disrespectful to many youngsters. But I'd also argue all day that there are far more selfish, entitled, lazy layabouts now than there was in the greatest ever time of national need.
Thanks guys it’s good sometimes to reminisce about the old days

Yes but many young men volunteered from other countries that were not in the war , men from the USA that said they were from Canada, many Canadians and from other countries. Men of principle.
