Evening all,

Been asked to do a job with a Schneider CU. Are they any good, do people use them?

found them OK. only drawbacks are 1. moulded din rail so no space behind for cable. 2. L and N are reversed on the main switch. i.e. the N is next to the breakers rather than the L.

What type of schneider DB, as they have taken over alot of companies recently, so there are several types out there now.

Yeah they are fine. I have used them before and would use them again. I would choose Hager first though on most jobs.

Easy9. looks new but they don't have any photos of the inside of them in their catalogue.

telectrix's comments were interesting - getting cables behind the DIN rail is often v useful...

We use Schneider a lot, good quality boards, the bought over Square D and Merlin Gerin and the breakers are different. Decent amount of space to work in. You can still get the Merlin Gerin style and cables can be passed behind the breaker housing on these boards. The 3 phase boards offer a decent amount of working space aswell but they have moved the earth bar to the top of the board, sometimes makes leaving a tidy board a bit of a task depending on where the cables are entering.

Schneider are strong and very top of the range in industrial and commercial market .... they have a smaller influence on domestic but as a company they are the manufacturers of many brands you may of heard of and the MCB's are made exactly the same but with a different name ...

Square D
Merlin Gerin
Telemecanique

A lot of people don't realise the above are the same company... depending on generation some SQ-D you can remove the busbar prongs and be left with standard merlin mcb just marked up differently.

Back to OP yes Schneider is a high quality brand and has both safe external and internal isolation on their boards and the new range has a tripped status on their mcb's / rcbo's so you know if a fault was the cause but with quality comes cost so not the cheapest.

Good boards, but the last few years I think the quality has dropped. Covers never want to go back and everything feels like cheap tin crap

Easy9 is just rebranded Square D. Complete rubbish IMHO. Acti9 on the other hand, the rebranded Merlin isobar gear, absolutely lovely stuff!
