Hi, I have a friend who has just bought a house to let out and wants me to pop round this weekend and replace a cooker socket for him as the old one is big and unsightly. The problem is that it is mounted directly ABOVE the cooker!
Now, the only mention that I have been able to find in the OSG is that the switch has to be within 2m from the appliance, but not directly above it so I cannot simply replace it as I will be breaching BS7671.
My friends wife has said that in order for it to fit in with her plans for kitchen design, she would like it moved up anyway and put into an overhead unit. Would I be able to do this based on the fact that the unit that she wants to put in, would be sufficient protection from external influences? Or would it still be classed as being "directly above" the appliance?.
One thing to bear in mind when answering is that I have recently qualified as a domestic installer and this will be one of the first jobs I have done and as such will be using it for my NICEIC minor works assessment so it has to be done right.
Any advice you can give me would be greatly appreciated,
Many thanks.

Nop sorry but shouldn't go above an oven or hob... looked into this before and did check with the niceic technical (after evetually getting through.)

Does the supply come in from below or above ?

How about a unit to the side ?
