Got called out to someone's garden spike lights tripping out , gu10's metal bodies but there only 2 core flexed! Now the cable is an armoured that is buried and all joints have been resin'd up and no work has gone on in the garden ( apparently) the ir result is 0.14 e-n and l-e ( havent taken the lamps out as of yet!) I was thinking ( I know that thinking is dangerous!!) If one of the neutrals or live has come into contact with the body of the fitting, and the fitting is inserted into the ground ( it's a spike light by the way) could that be the cause? As outside there is also a pond and a hot tub!

Yes as the RCD would see a imbalance and trip out!

Hopefully they are connected to a double pole switch so you can stop the tripping !

Already done that! It all looks ok, I'm just trying to not have to break into that armoured and make off more joints!!!

Only trips under load so I am guessing l-e and I know it's naughty but it trips with the e disconnected hence me thinking traveling back up the water feature and hot tub e!

Yes!! Pond is before the first light and the hot tub is near Ish the 3rd light!

I think anyway! So the homeowner informs me of the cable route!

how is the pond and hot tub wired up..?

Swa, didn't look for a rod by the hot tho. the pond swa I would assume would follow the same route as the lighting swa
