How to wire wall temperature sensor to be on all the time?

Hi. For the upper floor in my flat, I have a wall temperature sensor with a red and black wire attached to terminals 6 and 7. There are no other terminals in the box.

How can I wire this to be on all the time? It only seems to turn the heating on on the upper floors if the temperature gets really low...

normally, you would short the 2 wires together. these are probably 240V so isolate first. the best advice is to get a spark in to replace the stat.

They are measuring 4.9 volts DC, should I still try shorting them out? It's a white box with no controls on it.

You do realise that if you short them out and the heating is on all the time you will will have one hell of a heating bill with the cost of gas/electricity you would have to be a millionaire to have on all the time

It's acting like a second thermostat for the second floor, and never comes on unless the main boiler is running the ch.

have you got a photo of the stat or make and model? 5v DC not a common heating voltage, how do you know thats what it even is if there are no controls on it?
