Today i purchased an Ansell PIR motion sensor light to replace my old one. The wiring outside consists of blue, brown and yellow (with dashes of green on the yellow wire). But inside the new light it has blue, red and brown. Which wires go into which holes in the new lamp? As i'm not an expert with electrics and i wondered why the wires are different in this new lamp (the one i took down was very old and just stayed on because the sensor had gone). Ansell Lighting - https://www.anselluk.com/product/ALWL-PIR-WH that is the lamp. I have taken photos of the wires outside if needed. Thanks

Pics of everything would help.

Looks like just line and neutral

Blue being the neutral

your existing wires go into the new light, brown to brown, blue to blue. ignore red. if the new light does not have a terminal for earth, just terminate your gn/y into a separate block connector.

So that will be brown to black

The CPC (earth) will connect to the spare middle terminal by the looks of.it

Apologies brown to brown

I'm going colourblind

What is in the middle terminal of the new connector block between brown and blue, nothing? The base which that connector fits to looks like metal then again it could be moulded plastic.

Looks like plastic to me

There's nothing in the middle terminal

There's nothing in the middle terminal

Dang could be wrong too and there's a connection on the middle terminal to the frame

Thought it was plastic at first glance

Hopefully these help

So the earth wire is the yellow one with hints of green on the wire then. And i just stick that between blue/brown?

I mean i would put the earth wire next to blue and brown? So it would be 3 in a row for the wires on the same terminal. Or would i put it on the other side of the terminal in the places i'd put the blue/brown.

See telectrix post above , connect as per instructions

Managed to put it up this afternoon. It came on for about 20 seconds or something, then it clicked on and off a few times then it went off. Even waving in front of the sensor didn't make it come back on again, but i am not sure whether that is due to it being broad daylight or what. In a few hours i'll find out, because i've wired it up correctly. During the fiddling process of putting the wires in/putting the front of the lamp on a brown wire came out, which i knew was the case but my family member who helped me said it hadn't happened so i took it apart again and the brown wire had come loose (after putting the wire back it stayed on, then clicked 3/4 times on and off then it went off again)?. In just under 3 hours i'll see if it comes on during darkness when i walk past it.
