Just wondering if anyone can help me with this, I have a few jobs coming up involving changing boards put to rcbo boards but i was wondering does anyone pit there do populated ones? Or are we all just buying empty ones and filling them ourselves? Ideally 10 or 12 ways if possible. Thanks

I've used a good handful of Lewden boards in recent times. Been pleasantly surprised with them so far. My usual brand is Hager but the price difference between their dual RCD boards and a decent sized RCBO board is a deal breaker for most of my customers.

My local Yesss stock the populated Lewden boards, 10 way with 8 RCBOs, or 14 way with 10 RCBOs, and they are happy to swap a few out if the sizes don't match with your job.

I usually buy an empty Wylex board and then fill it myself don’t think anyone actually does the fully populated ones in RCBOs cause they are so expensive have got the carcass from one wholesaler and the RCBOs from a few different ones as the prices seem to fluctuate a bit with different ratings and wholesalers some are up to £10 cheaper so it can be worth shopping around a bit....

Denmans do a decent rcbo populated board for £89 plus vat and you can get extra rcbos for 11 plus vat each. The cu has decent space uptop too for dressing it well. Comes with 6 rcbos
With denmans you can normally ask for discount if buying a big order. So ask the manager and good chance youll get 5% off if buying a couple with rcbos too.
In your case youll get next day delivery to NI. Ring them and ask for a discount... they give you £30 off your first order if you open an account anyway

I'm assuming you will be using Belfast wholesalers.

Mercers are pretty good price for Lewden/Control Gear. CEW & WES are decent for BG (but there is a significant price increase coming especially for non stockists!), YESSS not too bad for Contactum.

EDS & EDS do Havells which I find terrible, and CEF do M2 & Proteus which is worse than terrible.

I don't know of anyone that does a populated RCBO board. Dual RCD boards, an MCB costs little to swap out for stock. It's rare I get to do an RCBO board, but I can (or could pre price increase) get BG RCBO's for £8.10+VAT (Penneybridge based Supplier)

Have you come across or used their new reduced height RCBOs? They've dropped the functional earth and made them 23mm shorter, finding them on sale anywhere is quite a challenge though.

Just shows how supply and demand have affected the price of RCBO's. I don't think that we can give the best cost on here because of different wholesalers buying power and nominated stockists.

Thanks for all the replies, will have to make a decision on which to go with, think I am going to give lewdens a go as it seems popular

Thanks for the reply, I've been using yesss east Belfast and always fit contactum as I like it and never have had any issues but they have raised the price from 9.50 per rcbo to 17 without any reason why so I'm looking for something different as that's quite a hike. Might try that bg one, as far as I'm aware they are more or less the same as contactum. Is that pennybridge in ballymena?

That's some price hike:(:(:(

I've been informed that BG are going to be ditching the full height RCBO's and going only with the compact RCBO.

Yep Penneybridge in ballymena hey.

MK do a populated RCBO board thinks it's 10 way, and about £100 the wholesaler I use KEW sell them, I think they are also in CPC farnell.

It's MK though so not the best board in the world but better than Proteus.

So are Denmans part of the Rexel Senate group?

That price for a 10 way populated is one of the best I've seen for
a while. I could have done with that this week. Went for a dual RCB instead.

haven't most manufacturers dropped the functional earth now?
I've fitted Schneider, contactum and mcg in the last 4 weeks mainly but havnt seen any without the functional earth, would be nice to have it out of the way

The Cudis range isn’t badly priced and nice enough to work with. But you’d be roughly around £180-190 all in for main switch and 10 RCBO’s in a 12 useable way Board.

Electrical Wholesale Express in Ards or Mallusk stock them.

The Denmans loaded RCBO board is similar to the Lewden, but not identical. Looks good though.
I’ve been using Lewden loaded RCBO boards for a while now. I’d prefer to use Hager, or Crabtree Starbreaker (but the price is prohibitive IMO) as both now do the reduced height RCBO mentioned herein.

eaton do a rcbo without a funtional earth

denmans do me a 10 way board £37+vat and rcbos £16.95+vat
quality is very good

The hager reduced height one without functional earth has an interesting faq on What you need to know about our Reduced Height RCBO - http://www.hager.co.uk/news-exhibitions-case-studies/blog/circuit-break/what-you-need-to-know-about-our-reduced-height-rcbo/72306.htm
"Will the device function normally if there is a loss of neutral to the installation?
No, the overcurrent portion of the device will function normally. The RCD portion of the device will not function normally. However, the chance of seeing this simultaneous double fault is extremely unlikely. If the supply neutral is lost to the circuit or the installation there will be disruption to the function of the installation which would be unlikely to go un-noticed."
... because all your equipment will be exploding?

Although without sticking an earth rod in the simpler way to discover a lost neutral would be trip on overvoltage.

Was there not mention on here not that long ago of a recall on said BG compact RCBO devices?

There was. They had to do some testing, to confirm things were ok, I think. I had an order for a dozen compact RCBOs that was put on hold for a week or so. The stockist I ordered them from at the start of May said, "Unfortunately BG have had manufacturing issues with all the compact RCBO's. They are currently being tested but have told me the earliest they will get to us is the last week of May. However they said if it goes successfully it should be much quickier than this."

It seems to have gone well, because they did arrive a lot "quickier." :)

As been mentioned before Wylex are doing a compact RCBO, without earth fly lead, but with switched neutral, suppose Crabtree will follow soon.

BG, I mean honestly. :)

Crabtree have compacts as well - saw them at ELEX. Will be a most pleasant install I’ll imagine!

Id give lewdens a go for that price but are they compact rcbos? Once used the compact ones the cu feels very small with the taller versions. I mainly use mcg pay £15 for tall or £20 for compact but i think i pay too much.
