Hello all
This is the biggest forum I'm aware off.

We had an electrician carryout an EICR, there were several C2 faults noted, mainly because the consumer unit has no RCD protection and is old, apart from this everything else seemed ok. A unsatisfactory report was issued. He had said that in order to issue a satisfactory EICR these works will need doing. Which ive just had done, and the electrician has issued a satisfactory EICR rather than an EIC - now i will go back and ask him, but before i do and dont want to look silly.

Is this correct to issue an EICR rather than EIC? - because i understood this is notifiable and seems it wouldn't be if an EICR is issued rather than EIC

Thanks

If the consumer unit has been upgraded then yes an EIC should have been issued and a part P notification either posted or emailed to you! Depending on what the C2 issues were they may have been covered by minor works certification.

Also, there is no requirement to have a 2nd EICR saying "Satisfactory", evidence the work is completed is sufficient.
As above, that particular work should have resulted in an EIC, and is notifiable work.

Thanks, thats what i thought. i did check and he is registered with the NICEIC
what would be the purpose in doing it this way, is there a purpose, and now im worried i wont get a completion notice for a new installation of the consumer unit

I'm pleased to learn he is a CPS scheme member - I was expecting the reason this has happened would turn out to be that he wasn't.
I can't offer a logical reason other than work avoidance why this would have happened, it's less work to delete the C2's and send you the EICR again.

You now need to follow the NICEIC complaints procedure and step one is to contact him again (in writing by post, email or text) saying it's your understanding that this is notifiable work and should have resulted in an EIC and part P notification.
If he refuses then you can follow this procedure:

Just to add to Tim's post, how long ago was the work completed? We have 28 days to submit jobs to our CPS. Have you tried asking him for the registration number of your job. When I register a job I will send the notification number on the email with the certification I have issued!

I tried calling him, I'll try again later
Think its better to just ask him to clarify

If there is a dispute with paying I can tell
you this, the said spark can notify the work, but he does not need to hand over the test certs until being paid. And that comes from the Niceic.
I dont issue certs until payment is made; the NAPIT notification software/portal for notification asks for an email for the customer so they can send the notification direct. i really dont like this set up as it gives unscrupulous types chance to take the P tbh.

I've not tried it but would it work to just turn off "Use Electronic Delivery" and put your own details in for the certificate despatch address...
