Once a pee taker always a pee taker, if he stops shafting you this way he will find another way.

Sack him.....................................!

What?

The OP has never told him not to book travel time, yet you seem to think sacking him is justifiable because of it.

OP talk to him, I dont know what else you expected to be told on here as unless you talk to the subby direct he wont have a bloody clue that you don't pay it. Have you already paid his previous invoices where he has booked it?

Dillb has summed it up really , you had not already set the ground rules ( it may be his first ever time at subbing , and he thinks what he is up to is just common place ).
But if you had already done so , he wants to be down the road as he will find another way of getting his pound of flesh for the honour of letting you employ him !

He has worked for me in past and I have never paid traveling for local work. Struggle winning a job as it is no chance of getting traveling time out of them. Going to sit him down tomorrow.

Thanks all for your advice.

How much are you paying? If it is the same as on the books money then he has got to take fuel, tax and van money out then i could understand, but if you are paying reasonable then time for talks. Does he supply own meters, van etc

On the odd occasion I use a subby I pay from the moment his tools exit his van until home time , to the nearest half hour after , if he don't like it he can find closer work to his house

well subbies seem to be getting a hard time on this thread, if managed correctly they can be an asset to you, they are easy to contact and use when needed, also when the Job is done a quick handshake and they are not around to cost you any more money, 90% plus are only on the 20% tax scheme and easy to pay, most have their own kit and van, it all comes down to communication with them and thats down to the employer to be up front, for companies who need help occassionally but do not want long term employees they are great, so to the OP I would suggest a friendly chat and he will gain the most from his new helper.

Surely if he is you Uncle you can have a straight conversation with him regarding the matter, at the end of the day you are the employer so you set the rules IMO
