Hi,

Thanks in advance for any input.

I have a 65 Dacia Sandero. Mid last year the pump on the wash wipe broke and was not squirting water. I took it to a local garage who replaced the pump. It was fine for a number of months then stopped working again and the 6 month old pump was replaced by a new one under warranty. A few months later the same thing happened again and this time the pump was replaced by a Dacia pump ( I am guessing the first two pumps were 'generic' pumps).

The same thing has now happened again - the Dacia pump has stopped working (no sound when pulling the stalk to spray water). The garage has said that there must be an electrical problem with 4 pumps blowing in 18 months (and in the circumstances I can see why).

I have spoken with an auto engineer who says he cannot see what fault would cause this.
Has anybody experienced anything similar or can shed any light on what the problem could be.

Many thanks

Hard to see how there could be too much voltage, maybe measure battery or connector with engine running.
It would be interesting to autopsy the old ones.
Perhaps the type of screen wash degrades seals?

Is the pump actually faulty and not the Relay or body control module (assuming it's controlled that way)

Hi Newfutile,

I am not sure what the problem is. Each time I have taken it back to the garage where the pump was replaced and they have put a new pump on, the old one still being under warranty. After 4 blowing in a year they have said it is likely to be an electrical fault of some sort rather than the pumps. Speaking to somebody else they suggested that if the system is not flushed gunk can block the flow and stop the pump from working.

It is affecting both both front and back windows so dont know it that makes a difference.

If changing the pump every time allows it to work for a while, it could be caused by blockage stopping the impeller spinning and causing the motor to die.

I would ensure that the filler tank and pipework are clean.

It's unlikely to be electrical, but as already said a diagnosis of the failure of the old ones would be helpful.

Were any of the pumps actually tested to see if they were actually faulty?

I don't think so. Just replaced
