I don't undersatnd why someone would want to pay extra for this? i don't and i just fill out a cert and give it straight to the client, it's not notifiable as i'm just inpecting and testing and not actually installing.

how can they charge extra for this? or have i missed something?

it's called borrowing the shirt off your back and charging you for it.

As said in a previous post my 91 year old nan can do an EICR if she wants.

Wouldn't be a very good one but she can do one.

Nope not me.

I begrudge part-p in fact I folded my first company in 05 because of my disgust.

I relented eventually though.

I have been doing PIR's for years never paid a penny for the 'privilege'

If you read guidance from the electrical safety council and the like to the public re EICR's they advise them to get an electrician who is 'approved' to carry them out. I suppose the thought being you need a higher level of skill, experience and knowledge of the regs.
It's a personal choice I suppose and if you can gain more work by being approved to do it then so be it.
I've never been asked though so I'll keep hold of my 600 odd quid thanks.

Considering anyone registered with them can buy the certs, I'm not sure Elecsa are bothered tbh.

I seem to remember its the same with nic

When I registered online with Elecsa a couple of years ago I opted to pay the extra for doin PIR's (green as grass I guess!).To be fair to them, they got in touch with me and said I didn't need it and refunded the fee.
