Over the years I've browsed this Forum and found really good advise... in between the jokey bits.
I need a bit of advise and hope you can help.

Went to look at a job this morning that's near completion but the customer has fallen out with the sparky firm over the state of the work...I'm not taking the job on as really busy atm, don't really want to be stuck in the middle of a dispute between the customer and the other firm, in general...
This is a little tongue and cheek, but at 42 I'm beginning to feel like a bit of a dinosaur in the trade when it comes to safety.
Whilst I appreciate the need to obey the rules and lunacy of the big sites, but is there any of use originals still left that use common sense over rules?
is there...
This months PE, page 38 is a full page advert for a new guide they have produced – “Guide to Consumer Units”
So they write RUBBISH regs, that most of us think are knee jerk, and them they expect us to pay out more money on a new Guide they have written. They should be giving them to people who...
Anyone else surprised by the review of Am3 DB's in this months PE?

"There are only two neutral bars which means, in the unfortunate event of an earth fault on a circuit and remedial work is to be continued, this circuit cannot be wired in"
So are they suggesting a faulty...
Hello everyone,
My name's Matt, 33 years young (for a sparky, so I've heard :innocent: ), married with a tear away 5 year old.
I've been an Optical Lab Technician for 15 years, 13 of those as a Lab Manager. At 33, I have decided that I've built my fair share of specs and so I have finally...

I'm 24, I have my NVQ and Technical Certificate level 2, CSCS card and few basic tools, which I got after Completing my PTA Electrical Course in college back in 2013.
Finding it really hard to get an apprenticeship since then, I've sent out countless CV's and applied to many places directly...
I bought a 5V 2A mains plug from eBay to charge my tablet but I get the feeling it's actually only 500 mA or 1000 mA as my tablet charges slowly.
Is there a device I can buy to test USB mains plug amps?
Could the USB cable be the issue? Is there a device to test those?

The Low Pressure Warning light is on and we can only get cold water out of it. I suspect its a faulty sensor in the 'base' unit but as its so old, no one at Triton is old enough to remember them!
Has anyone any experience of them & how to fix them? I really dont want to take the whole thing out...
Often wonder what many electricians commercial or domestic really think of being a member of one of the scheme providers.
Are they really there to help provide a valuable service to practicing electricians ?
Or are they just a pain in the backside that are always trying to find new ways to...
Hi all,
I want to be a electrician and been looking into how to become qualified and from my searches i found this website:
https://www.electriciancourses4u.co.uk/
And just wondering if it is a legitimate way to learn the trade? Seems too good to be true to me...
Any help appreciated...
I have a cable running from a mains socket in my house, down the garden thru a white thick plastic tube.
The cable on leaving the house runs down the wall and along a patio with no tube around it. It's a standard, tho thickish, cable.
It runs into the shed, to a double socket that supplies a...
I'm looking to install a Secuself wireless alarm system (www.electronics-line.com , no luck looking on there) and it requires a sim card for GPRS(to link the panel to the PIR/door contacts I imagine) and text alerts. Could anyone from experience tell me if it uses a lot of data, I'm wondering...
