Is it just me or has anyone else ever wondered how many people do not actually understand the actual legal standpoint regarding BS7671 aka the wiring regs? The number of people who ask " is such and such legal and if so under what reg" the regs are NOT a statutory instrument and therefore not...
I'd like to understand a bit more about what actually gives you an electric shock. I think the more you understand something the safer you will be.
I have been taught that it is the current (amps) that gives you the shock, but this then confuses me with regard 12v equipment (lets say anything...

Hi,
I've been getting various quotes for a solar PV system - my roof is not a big flat south facing job, it has a few different sections. To fit solar to my roof you can get perhaps 6 panels on the main roof section - pretty much facing south with no shading issues, and you could get maybe 4...
Hello,
I would like to do a course that gives me a basic understanding of electricity and how it works. I don't want to become an electrician right now but would like any course I do to be useful in the future in case I decide that becoming a qualified electrician might be useful. Could anyone...

hi guys just something that's been bugging me, as i understand it a MCB trips on overload (to much current) and a RCD trips on a imbalance of amps through live / neutral , its important to have a low resistance fault path for the protection devices to operate promptly but wouldn't a mcb trip...

I'm trying to work out how many panels I can get on my south facing roof but I'm a little confused with regards to shading. It looks like the only shading I will get will be from a neighbours roof but only during the depths of winter.
Does anyone know how to calculate potential yield of the...
Dear fellow electricians,
I am new to the electrical trade and even after several courses am having a very difficult time in understanding what I am allowed/required to buy and what I am not in regards to testing equipment.
I am told that to test circuits I need to comply with GS38 although...

Hi there,
I have to confess I'm not an electrician... Nor do I know anything about it. But that's why I'm here. I'm doing a bit of research into tradespeople, and wondered if any of you wouldn't mind giving me your two-pennies worth on a few things?
Just wondering how you find your work?
If...
Believe that I am (mostly) up to speed with electricity as applied to appliances (n.b. just realised as I wrote this, that is where the word appliances comes from, never occurred to me before!), so I am now trying to understand installation voltages. My aim is to learn/train eventually to become...
