Hi guys,

Just pricing up a job and cant help but think something doesnt add up. I just want to charge a fair price.

I am to install 2 sockets incorperated into the existing ring, clipped. (although the run of cable will be about 30m altogether). I am also to install a new light with switch (customer is providing the light). It will take 3 or 4 hours to do all the work on a weekend.

I have a figure of around £230 to charge the customer. Does this sound about right?

Well you must have an hourly rate in mind you charge. So does£77.00- £57.50 an hour sound expensive to you?

if your happy that's an honest and fair price your putting in - do it - it's then up to the client to say yes or no

i'd have said £150- £180, but not seen the job, so difficult to be specific.

In this climate does it matter if it is the weekend, what I mean by that is, some guys just treat the weekend as another day , but some guys will charge overtime/ doubletime rate.

am guessing an electrical installation cert and a minor works , but not too sure thats y am asking

y would you need too know what type of light is too be installed is that not also a strange question?

This is asking if the price is right based on the info supplied. The type of light to be fitted was not stated, and therefore I couldn't say if it was a fair price before I knew that.

y would you need too know what type of light is too be installed is that not also a strange question?
no. wouldn't say so.

does fitting a fluorescent cost more than say fitting a pendant or a bulkhead , wouldnt make any difference to my price , but having to fill out 2 certs would , thats y i asked

y dont you clear this up for me , i was thinking a minor works for sockets and installation for new light circuit , i could go dig out my GN3 but i cant be bothered so i asked the question if this is wrong plz say , i only asked the question

fitting pendant £10 theres nice space to terminate all the wires
fitting b&q fancy light £30, they do not like more than 1 cable in there.
fitting 25 kilo chandelier £100 upwards, got to bring a mate with you and occasional scaffold tower ;-)

Everyone's overheads are different. Price depends upon what you need to earn. I'd say about £50 to £60 per point is a reasonable figure. So £200 to £240 total. Might only be a 4 hour job, but might take longer. You've also got the testing and cert to factor in. Really difficult to know without seeing what's involved. Be flexible on price. It's never an exact science.

Started writing this around time of post #3. Got distracted! A lot has been said since.

Joe at the Rose and Crown would have done the job for twenty quid in the time it’s taken you to post this thread and dither about.
