Following on from MDJ's post about fuel theft ( Feel for you fella !), a few of the comments on that thread got me thinking !
How much fuel are others getting through a week and how are you buying it , ie on the spot cash/card or on fuel cards and if so which ones ?

We have had fuel cards in the past but found that we could often find garages offering it cheaper than the card would , so we now pay by company debit cards .
Also what have others found in relation to the claims of the fuel companies when filling up with the higher priced alternatives and if they really do give you more mpg .

As for usage personally i tend to do a £80-£90 tank of diesel in about a day and a half ( the same as my other director ) but have on more than one occasion filled up twice in one single day before .

Also what is the most any one has ever paid in one sitting ( multiple vans or lots of cans ! ).

it usually involves a pickup with a pallet of gold on the back....driven by my trusty sidekick bobajob.....he throws insults as well as a taxmans hat......

Just tooling around, trying to build things up again.... I've managed a tank in a day easily lately - £95 on average - 70l. Most I paid recently was £1.56 a litre on the M6. That was a very short load (£30) and proper fill at the Morrison's off the next junction at £1.41!

Average in the area (SE) at the moment seems to be between £1.36 a litre - £1.43 a litre at the local Texaco open all hours.

Have a tank outside the workshop
holds about 3000l ( its locked) lasts 3 to 6 weeks
costs £1.38/l nerest garage charge £1.47/l
no supermarkets near hear
and i get 30days to pay

I filled a tow along bowser that we used for filling generators up at a forecourt with £600 worth of derv. That made them stare. I had to go in 6 times to pay as we have a £100 pound limit on our cards.

An old bloke that I spoke to used to go around collecting chip oil from cafe's and he had a bio diesel machine he got from some place or other....he used his home made fuel to run old vans as he said your warranty is worthless on a new vehicle with it....

Apparently VOSA stopped him and tried to do him for "illegal fuel"/non payment of tax....but he managed to get out of it as he made under something like 75 Litres a month (supposedly permitted limit)which was found out when they did a confiscation visit to his shed, they just took his kit (the customs n revenue and also trading standards for some reason) then they tried to do him for storing chemicals that he needed to make the fuel/add in....he had been getting given it by somebody else who was using it on a bigger scale and who had a full licence for it that was able to buy it in for him.....and had just got a storage licence himself for it so they couldn't touch him....

As far as I know he started making fuel again for himself, there is also another old bloke doing it locally as far as I know who has a deal with hotels for chip oil and there are probably more.....

I was told it cost them 20p a litre to make their own all in....

keyboard/ windows acting up again...

Oh forgot to add from what I read somewhere online, the govt has now slapped a tax on it of something like 85p a litre if you do it all the way they want you to...initially it was about 40p....don't know if this is where the 75 litres a month limit/barrier comes in.....or if they want money for all of it...
