cable tray help

Has any one any links to tutorials on making cable tray bends and tee sets starting a new job next week with tray and never used it before so in a pickle , containment wise nothing else is a prob just never did tray

get a good file, bahco do a nice aggressive one that will be good.

for bends you cut the sides so you can bend the tray, get someone to show you.

its quite simple really.


stick to medium return unless you know people will be walking over it or its carrying heavy swa then go for heavy duty.

one word of warning, some builders prefer you to use manufacturerd bends where possible but sets etc are fine.


get a box of bpz roofers as well as 6mm zebs, unistrut, square washers and 8mm rod and nuts


these are the roofers you want, they are a lot better than the old ones with the square nuts

If you do a proper college course yes. We covered Conduit, trunking, tray etc in our practical sessions. 2357 C&G.

Sorry to say OP - containment systems mentioned on this thread and your other posts simply cannot be taught by online tutorials. Hours spent in workshops practising with extensive work experience and not to mention assessment after assessment are the only way you'll ever be ready to start a job installing with these methods.

I'd probably delay your job on Tuesday or sub out to an electrician.

once you have been shown a couple bends and sets you will be away.. just make sure you set square all of your edges nothing worse than bad cutting.. i have never used the pre made stuff personally as we were always expected to make them but always hand file the tray and strut and dont forget the galv spray..

depends on the college as well simons, i missed the day they cut a piece of 2" trunking and never touched tray.

everyone should know how to do it in my opinion, unistrut is something that wasnt even mentioned at mine but it is very useful

if the sides have been slightly crushed on one side the line wont be square
