I was wondering if anyone could fill me in here.
I tested an installation for someone which consisted of 2 circuits to a loft conversion
I personally never carried out the installation and from what im told the person who did
is not a sparky, just dabbles. straight away i was scepticle about signing this of anyhow i
carried out an inspection and found that in the lighting circuit the earths where cut away and the was no continuity
hence no earth. I reconnected all the earths, fixed a couple of things i wasnt happy with and took a Zs, all seems well.
As i am technically not the installer i dont see why i should issue a installation certificate therefore,should i issue a minor works cert or a condition report.
the certificate it for the attention of the building authority in order to get the loft conversion signed off by building control. I intend to ensure the certificate covers these 2 circuits only as the remainder of the wiring looks as if the guy in the local pub done it


any help will be greatly appreciated thanks

You can only supply an EICR.
If you give them an EIC, you are acting fraudulently, if you sign for installation/design.
If however you only sign for Testing,then you'd be fine, but the Building Control wont generally accept that, they want a Part P certificate.

Personally I think you're mad even thinking about signing it off.

A Minor Work Cert isn't some kind of optional extra get out of jail card!

EICR is your ONLY option but probably pointless for customer needs. They paid a cowboy for the work who did no testing and is incapable of issuing a Cert. Now they want you to get them out of the ****.

I wouldn't touch it with a barge pole!

They didn't want to pay you to do the initial work did they?
