Hi guys to become an electrician I followed this route:
2330 Level 2 (2 years)
2330 Level 3 (1 Year)
2391/2 Inspection & Testing (5 day course)
Working at Height and Haul Rescue Training (5 Day Course)
PASMA Advanced
2356 NVQ Level 3 Electrical Installation (1 Year alongside 2330 L3)
AM2 final exam

However a lad I have working for me has just finished his 2330 Level 2 and was about to start his level 3 but has been told that he can now sign up for a 2356 NVQ online portfolio with final assessment for £915 with no need to do a 2330 L3 or for an AM2 exam at the end and this will be sufficient for a JIB Approved Electrician grading.

Has anyone on here heard anything similar or is he been taken for a ride?

Nope its true!!

i have a Btec level 3 no C&G stuff for 2330 and i did Knowledge assessmnet and got NVQ 3 2356 via delta for 900 ish quid! i dont think he will get Approved status just yet though!

as read below from JIB

3) Must have had two years experience as an Electrician subsequent to the satisfactory completion of training and immediately prior to the application for this grade.

4) Must have demonstrated competence and obtained a suitable qualification (the City & Guilds 2391 is a suitable qualification) in the inspection, testing and commissioning of installations - see Note 2.

He has been working as a mate for the last 2 years (whilst doing his level 2, 1 day a week) so if I get him booked on his 2391 he can leave college and just get on this online portfolio??

Wish I had known this, I honestly feel I learnt very little at college and took away even less. I found it all too many equations and formulas which I have never used since leaving.

yeah then he sounds good to go mate! i never did college i learnt the hard way of getting hit with a stick and told to sod off until i knew the answer! ( royal navy method)
