door entry handset

Hi. Ive got two handsets to replace next week. Dont know what make they are but I have been told by the client that they are basic so just a standard handset with a button to release mag lock.
What I would like to know is are all handsets compatible? (If they are of the standard type)
If its 2 wire would it matter if I bought a 4 wire handset and vice versa? Hope this makes sense. Ta

normally these handsets incorporate an intercom, so i would be inclined to replace with the same model as original.

no they are not ask her to send a picture and then we will hopefully know what sort

Cheers. Just thought I would ask as the client is based in an office miles away and the the site is even further. Was hoping not to complicate things by asking for info etc if poss.
Looks like I will have to get make and model then will enquire wth wholesaler or internet. Thanks again

Like Tel said. Then do as stuart suggests. Get her to take a few pics one of the intercom panel at enterance, and couple of the handsets. This way you can determine make and model,then you can probably get a user manual online to tao take with you also.
