First post for some time, anyway, I am looking around for a earth leakage clamp tester, i was thinking about the Di Log DL6507, has anyone used them before, if so what are they like, finally what are you guys using.

Thanks

Have the di-log meter, it's not great. The jaw doesn't meet together well affecting the readings and it's not that accurate on the 40mA scale. Wish I'd gone forthe Megger one. Twice the price but no regrets.

I am also looking to buy a earth leakage clamp meter, I have seen the kewtech kew 2434 on ebay for £212 I am considering buying one have a look and see what you think
Cheers Chris.

Why not just use a normal clamp lead and put around the CPC? What's the difference using one that says "earth leakage" on it?

Hi

Standard clamp meters are essentially designed to read amps ranging from 1 to hundreds of amps. They are unable to read or are not very accurate at currents below 0.5amps whereas an earth leakage clamp is extremely accurate usually down to 0.01mA. This makes them ideal for checking very small leakage currents.

Incidently the most accurate technique for earth leakage testing is to clamp both phase and neutral conductors of the circuit in the jaws (differential test), the reading being the total leakage in the selected circuit.

Cheers, never thought of measuring over line and neutral - makes perfect sense though! I've only ever measured over many devices (on a whole circuit) but can see to measure over one device at a time to find a problem would need a low reading instrument. Shame they're so expensive for the use it would get though!
