Hi all, I put a post on a few days about a 6mm swa coming through to a garage but it's cut short the idea I have if I'm able to get a junction box on it then from the junction box swa to a garage cu to feed lights and a few sockets just, so I was looking some advice on the size of swa from junction box to garage cu to use any advice would be much appreciated.

Obvious choice is to make it the same 6mm so whatever original design for max current applied is still likely to be the case.

Anything smaller and the supply MCB might have to be changed to still provide overload protection, and at that point you really ought to get a professional electrician in to coordinate what are basic design changes (i.e. essentially it becomes a new circuit using a section of old cable).

I just read your last thread:

Worst case - it might have been cut short because it was faulty - it could do with IR testing before you waste time on it.
The normal rules apply regarding cable size. The current-carrying-capacity of the cable (about 50A) has to be adequate for the load (no problem here) and larger than the upstream protective device (fuse/breaker)
As @pc1966 said continuing in 6mm SWA keeps things simple.
Other thought - is the garage a separate building and if so are there any metal water pipes in there?

Hi yes a separate building no pipes at all the swa coming to the garage is already connected to 2.5 t&e with tape wrapped round it to feed a socket.
