This problem solving was on Virtual Scenarios (Ring Final Circuit) Getting Value of R1+R2

2.5mm and 1.5mm size cable used.

1st From the C.U. values of following connection
L to L =0.27
N to N =0.27
CPC to CPC =0.45

2nd from the C.U cross the outgoing L to the incoming N and vice versa
Measure between L and N at each socket outlet.

socket 1 = 0.16
socket 2 = 0.16
socket 3 = 0.17
socket 4 = 0.18
socket 5 = 0.46

3rd from the C.U cross the outgoing L to the incoming CPC and vice versa
Measure between L and CPC at each socket outlet.

socket 1 = 0.73
socket 2 = 0.73
socket 3 = 0.75
socket 4 = 0.74
socket 5 = 1.2

I'm confused which of the value of R1+R2 to be recorded?
Is there something to be calculated to get the value of R1+R2?

With those readings I would say that socket 5 is a spur - so take it off the wall and check it has only 1 cable - if it has 2 cables it may still be a spur with a spur off a spur OR be a dodgy socket, so try the readings off the cables.

hope this helps

Ps you record the highest reading

Have another look at your Line and CPC results you should be getting around 0.18 at each of the points and as Murdoch has said find out why you are getting the high reading at the last S/O !!

2.5mm+1.5mm T&E. r1 and rn should have the same value of resistance measured end to end (within 0.05 of each other). r2 is obviously going to be of a higher value of resistance than r1 or rn due to the CPC being of a smaller CSA (times the value of r1 by 1.67). The value of r1 and the value r2 added together and then divided by four will give you your R1+R2 value.
