Why would you buy one of these in preference to, lets say a Fluke 1664FC with add on EV charger testing.

That company seem to be an up-and-coming bunch that think outside the box.
I'd pegged them as one to watch.

I'd never pay that much for an MFT, but I was looking at another of their products, a dedicated continuity tester designed to not tie yourself in knots when using wander leads with long probes designed to reach commercial light fittings etc.
( C.A 6011 - https://catalog.chauvin-arnoux.co.uk/uk_en/c-a-6011.html )

I wouldn't call them 'up and coming'. We've been using their 5kV 'meggers' and ductors (micro ohm meters) for over 10 years. Great bits of kit. We have had two fail, 1 due to operator error (someone fried my ductor) and 1 5kV IR tester failed but I've since found, and repaired, the fault. If I was in the market for a MFT after the past experience with C.A. equipment I would certainly consider it.

I wonder how good the export data software is and if it will print out an EICR in a recognisable form, could be worth investigating, certainly the Fluke software is a nightmare to navigate, not at all intuitive.

Sounds interesting:

"The measurements made with the CA 6117 can be processed by the DataView® multi-product expert processing software. DataView® automatically recognizes the instrument when it is connected to the PC and opens the corresponding menu. By means of a tree structure, it offers users direct access to the data recorded in the instrument, its configuration, etc.

It is equipped with multiple predefined report templates which comply with the standards' requirements.
Users can also create their own templates, as required.

Delivered as standard, the ICT software offers the following functions for quick, simplified analysis of the recorded measurements: recovery of the data, configuration of the instrument, customization of measurement campaigns with transfer into the instrument and generation of reports."

Obviously been around for a while, the save function in the software is a floppy disc icon. 😱

Only 3 things in over 10 years and one was a user error and these things get quite a bit of use.
CA 6240 micro ohm meter. After at least 8 years of use the battery started playing up so battery was replaced.
CA 6240, user error. Someone tried to connect it across a live 3 phase board and it didn't like it :-( Wasn't me!
CA 6545 5kV Insulation Tester. At least 10 year old. Stopped working on 5kV setting. Fine on 500v, 1000v & 2500v. It went in to a local place to be repaired. They said parts were no longer available. After a bit of trial and error I fixed it by replacing 5 x 222 6kV caps but it does need a new battery.

As far as I know none of the other CA units we have have had any faults.

Nothing wrong with a floppy disk icon :) Nothing wrong with Chauvin Arnoux as a brand, I see they're eventually getting more popular in the UK of recent years but they've been around producing solid test gear for decades. I've got some old analogue panel voltmeters I recovered from a large control centre that was being demolished, they were manufactured by Chauvin Arnoux in the 1960's and still work well but with no blutooth or app connectivity.
