Discuss Need help on testing procedures & fault finding in the Periodic Inspection Reporting & Certification area at ElectriciansForums.net

Failed am2 on ring final circuit, insulation resistance testing & fault finding..

Unlucky fella, but try and explain a bit more of what you don't understand, and you will get all the help you need.
If you have done the AM2, then you cant be too far away.

Cheers..........Howard

The results only showed what I failed on but not why. trying to get in routine when testing but it's probably my nerves that let me down, I may have missed a test on my rfc but I just can't think back to what I done.. Cheers for input..

So tell us what you did, not what you should have done, and we can point out what you missed. It's a harsh lesson but I'll bet you won't repeat it mate

I tested end to end on all conductors in the ring and then tested at each socket outlet and recorded my results.
Insulation resistance I tested each circuit line-neutral then line to c.p.c, removing all vulnerable equipment beforehand...

RFC testing, continuity readings for L N CPC all 3 readings being recorded.
Cross connect L + N then test at each outlet
Cross connect L + CPC then test at each outlet, the highest reading = (R1+R2)
These steps prove continuity and polarity
IR test = L/N, L/CPC, N/CPC with all vunerable equipment removed, if this cannot be done link L&N and test between these and CPC
It's all in GN3 mate, like I said it's a harsh lesson but you'll get it next time

is this one necessary, trev?

yes, it would show up a poor N connection into the S/O. agree.

Cheers all it was my cross connection on the rfc test I didn't do, and n-cpc on ir test got re-sit 20th April will post next results

And proves the polarity of each conductor

better than a wet finger! LOL.

Chaza, if you don't already have a copy of GN3, or access to one. It's well worth a few quid spending on that rather than beer:)
