hi

Ive got a customer that has a meter position about 400 metres from there house intake, they want to install an groundmount system that is then 218 meters from house, i can account from for the pv side but what does everyone think about the supply side, admittedly this has only come to light via email so i will need a more in depth site visit to check the cable and exact length, anything else i should consider, what should I look out for ?

Try the SunnyDesign software. voltage drop will be your biggest problem (oh! and put the gen meter near the inverter :) )

cheers
gordon,, turns out supply is 250 metres and 50mm so not so much of an issue on the supply side

With our recent experience You HAVE to make some serious cable calculations and voltage readings before making a decision and the cable calculations HAVE to be made right back to the origin of the supply. The generation meter next to the inverter is good idea and good practice however VD and high voltage will mean the inverter WILL drop out at peak generation times. Don't rely on a sub main being suitable not only for load but it would not of been designed factoring in the <1% VD (if designed at all!) See my post on Diehl AKO Platinum 3800S Dropping out. 250mts @ 50mm. Not enough.
