Hi I am looking at joining napit. I have 236, 2391 and 17th. What sort of questions can I expect from them, what do they look for on the assesment. Is there any tips or must do's or must have's.

I understand I can install a supply to my shed with a ring circuit and lighting radial. Any tips here to ensure a good site assessment. I was considering running conduit from the sockets to ceiling then clip fixing cable at the top.

How hot are they on isolation, I have been used to just turning off circuits, locking off testing dead, then do what I got to do. lol

Regarding calibration checks, is it worth buying a calibration all singing, cont, ins, loop, rcd test check box. Or is there a better way.

I am worried I wont remember to use my martindale test my testers first senario or something lol.

I have not had to use my BRB since passing in 17th 2008. So I must admit I am not the best right now for searching through quickly. i will find what I need eventually like if you were doing a job and needed an answer. But for these guys how tough they gonna be.

Lastly my experience really lies on site, not domestic so much I understand kitchen and bathrooms are the main bone of contention. I will have to read some stuff in regs book regarding this.

Hope a few of you can chuck some really helpful advise my way.

All the CPS s have been done to death mate and continue to be so on an almost daily basis. Have a little dig on here or even contact NAPIT direct.
Best of luck with your assessment, they are not there to fail you:)

You will need the need the new green regs book and no the old red one. Also it is well worth buying the electricians guide to the building regulations.

As Trev said don't worry about it as to fail I think you would have to kill either the assessor or yourself due to your unsafe working practices.

As Dillb says you will need the new BGB and On-site Guide.

Also download and have a read through all the relevant Approved Documents...Planning Portal - Approved documents

Try an memorize all the obvious stuff like bathroom zones, drilling joists and safe zones etc.

I was also asked what types of jobs are notifiable so might be worth reading up on that too.

They are not there to catch you out but you'll impress them more if you know a few things without having to look in the books :wink5:

A week ago? Looks like someone has had you a good un.

The green one has been out for nearly 12 months now and all since since the beginning of the year has to comply with unless, designed to the old version.

the napit assessment is in a week or so. please learn to read. Ive been buying the gear to start up for a while.

You'll need public liability insurance and calibration certificates for your kit too.

slightly off topic, iet review off amazon that cracked me up a bit:

Yet again the IET have produced a modern classic. Three years on from their last bestseller, few would have believed they could write another thriller so soon which would capture the imagination in quite the same way. With Requirements for Electrical Installations: BS 7671:2008 Incorporating Amendment No 1: 2011: IET Wiring Regulations, they have proved all those doubters wrong and categorically established themselves at the head of the shortlist of truly great contemporary writers.

The reader is drawn into the story from the opening, with the backdrop for the entire plot uncompromisingly revealed at an early stage. In spite of this it is impossible to not be drawn in on the rollercoaster ride, which owes its thanks to the many unexpected plot twists which seamlessly lace the narrative and truly demonstrate the vast range of the IET's technical writing skills.

Do not be fooled by my unerring enthusiasm for this fine work of literature however; the book is undoubtedly a challenging read. Multi-layered sub-plots flow flawlessly in and out of one another, and some of the ideas which are presented in the IET's now notorious complex sentence structure can at times boggle the mind. I urge any prospective readers to persist with the book however, and they will truly be rewarded with a thought-provoking story which may well change the way they look at their life, and the lives of others around them.

In conclusion, I cannot recommend this book highly enough. The IET have yet again raised the bar for their contemporaries, and let's hope that Amendment 2 lives up to the hype which is already being generated in literary circles. Could a film adaptation possibly be on the horizon? One can only pray.
