Spur to an outdoor light, from a ring main

Can I wire a outdoor light that is connected to the exterior wall, from a ring main, via a fused connection unit, is this to the 17th edition. Thanks

Yes that's okay.

If you mean can you wire an exterior light fed from a FCU which is part of a RFC then the answer is yes providing you don't exceed the rating of the fuse in the FCU or the new wiring

It's just a PIR light, and using 2.5 as it is a short run. It will work, but is it to the regs, as it is not RCD protected at the CCU

If you are that concerned why not use a RCD/FCU when you connect to the RFC

They're a bit more expensive than a FCU alone. It's for someone I know and I want it to be to the Regs, aswell as safe

your outside light would only need RCD protection for the cable if buried <50mm deep in the wall. however, i'd recommend fitting RCD to the RFC to give the customer additional protection on the sockets.

It's going straight for the socket to the light on the other side of the wall. A rcd would add protection, but is it needed to comply with the 17th
