I need some advice and help with what i need to get and is it safe for me to do this myself.
I have a electric cable running from my house into my external garage cable is 600/1000 it was installed before I bought the house but now I want to use the lights and power in the garage and have round that the cable has been cut between the house and the garage it runs under the garden to the garage but the lead isn’t long enough t to straight to the garage sockets now so I need to buy a piece of cable to go between the building. How do I connect the two cables together safety and secure under the garden so it is waterproof also.

Hope you can advice on what I need to buy and the best way to do this.
I am not a electrican just a housewife with some diy skills

Get a qualified electrician in to do the job.

It's nothing that you can for yourself.

Try the yellow pages.......

Not a job you should tackle yourself may I suggest that you let us all know what area you live in and perhaps a local forum member to you will do the job for you safely.

Hi tropical.

We understand that you think its just a small job and you think that you can tackle it yourself.
But you must understand that a lot more goes into this sort of thing than just connecting the cables together.

There is lots of equations that go into electrical instalations, if you get any of them wrong there could be severre consequences for you or your home!

when we tell people this they think we are trying to flog them something. most electricians will only have your interst at heart. "and there mortgage oviously"

give a spark a call !! if everything is fine and it just needs connecting i bet he will do it for next to nothing.

if on the other hand its the wrong size cable... then you would want to know this??? wouldnt you??

I beleive 600/1000 are the markings on certain types of steel wire armoured cable. This however is not enough info for a sparks. He (or she) will need to know the cross sectional area of the cable in order to determine it's current carrying capacity, and therefore what size protection device to be installed (i.e. fuse or MCB).

In a nutshell , in order to join the cable underground , you will need a 'resin joint' with the armoured cabling correctly terminated inside. This is not really a difficult job for someone with electrical experience, but a novice may well struggle.
And once the joint is buried it will be a pain to dig it up again should a fault occur.

May well be best to find yourself a sparks to save hassle in the long run. Good luck.
