took my electrical exams way back in 1973.....all the info on the certs just say i have completed and passed " electrical installation work course B " does any one have any idea what the modern day equivalent is to this. i did contact C & G but they wanted £34.00 to tell me, im out of work at the moment so dont want to part with what little money i have, appreciate any help

only the cable colours. same old electrickery comes out of the street. suggest 17th would be a good start

apologys/i thought you been out the game quite some time!speak to a local colledge the head of apprentiships will tell you whats required.have you spoke to the jib?

only cable colours???anyone off the street can pass the 17th!alot has changed!
i was joking. obviously a lot has changed. even i have managed to use digital meters and a laptop. the basics are still the same though, just that where we used to measure to around 1 ohm, we now go down to milli ohms. don't make no difference to flicking the switch and the light comes on, though.

ive been active in the trade all my working life...i have kept pace with the changes and i do have 17th edition.

Welcome oldsparkie,

Being told to start again :mad2:

I know the hill that we climbed many years ago was probably steeper and harder than todays high peak mountain climbers

lol the basics are the same but thats the problem, too many people know the basics!!!but i do like your thinking of flicking the light switch on!

what sort of response is that?i could take anyone off the street an get them to pass the 17th you cant deny that!its an easy exam as long as you know how to read the book.its takes a much longer time to become a compatant electrician!!!!

Do as I said and find out.

Most people on the street wouldn't know what a lot of the words mean.
you cant deny that!its an easy exam as long as you know how to read the book.
That's what the exam is about but you have to know what it means.
You think it's easy. You understand it and know the answers.
Driving is easy but go and watch some learners.
its takes a much longer time to become a compatant electrician!!!!
I would not argue with that but that's not what you said.

Tell me what percentage your Mum or someone of the street get.

within a week i could teach someone off the street to be able to look for the answers in the 17th given the questions you are given, its really not that hard thats all i stated.have you taken the 17th?lol

I think it is about equivalent to C&G 2330 L3 certificate in electrotechnical technology

I don't think that's true unless that someone had a substantial previous knowledge.
What you are really complaining about is the fact that the law allows anyone to do electrical work.
To change that you will have to lobby your M.P. and probably a lot of other ones as well.
have you taken the 17th?lol
Yes.

I'd really like to see some of today's newly passed electricians take those old exams papers!!!

I wouldn't mind betting that they would all be complaining and moaning, the same as they do for the C&G 2391 10(or whatever it is) There were no multiple choice answers in those days, you either knew the answer or you didn't, there were no lucky breaks of having a stab and getting lucky ...lol!!!

I wonder just how many would actually pass those older C&G exam papers??

Because without it someone (off the street) wouldn't understand it.
the answers are there as long as youknow were to look
as long as you know where to look and what it means.

Not worthy of a reply.
.

Do you have an apprenticeship with your qualifications? If so apply for a JIB grading. They will request a 17th edition certificate but its a start.
