Hi all,

Any advice would help please!!!

Ive started a lighting repair and maintenance business in Kent. I have sent letters and emails to businesses but as we all know times are hard. Any other good ideas for getting work or contacts of people to speak to.

A chap that I know (and a very good electrician btw) advertises a free EM lighting review and re-lamping service for the first hour. Not a bad idea, keeps him busy.

With certain types of business you could turn up there in person - a person standing there looking at you is harder to ignore than a voice on the end of the phone or an email.

Does he get much paid work from it? It does seem a good idea, worry would be that after the first hour you're shown the door:(

I did think that, But might try it for new clients next week.

Did try offering a free Energy lighting saving audit, Which takes 20 mins to complete on a small site and 1hr on a large site, just go round servey the lighting and offer upgardes with cost and savings compared so they can see the savings.

This was working, but i now need to spread my area as i've completed loads on my door step.

That does happen but the majority of companies contract him to do the work or call him later. He gives a verbal report on the positioning and condition of the EM lights and because of the "no win no fee" culture specially in public/work areas the owners take notice.

This may sound like a Del boy Trotter tactic but at the end of the day its a short safety review out lining a possible risk in the event of a fire/power cut.

He runs a professional business and conducts himself in a professional manner which you need to do when approaching businesses for potential works.
