hello
tested a ring final circuit today a one of the socket outlets . (continuity of conductors)
r2 .85 ish (from memory)
rn .62 ish
r1 open circuit

turned the breaker back on and found 230 both ends of the broken ring?

turn off and took the ring apart some more including at the board
re assembled and r1 at the original socket tested = .63

how can it be live both ends of the "broken ring"??

confused :):)

There's somthing your not doing right in your testing and verification,
If need be your going to have to start at the cu and work your way round- happy hunting

its an odd one pal if it's live at both ends then you had continuity, i tend ti agree with the above post

Check the neutral as well. Presuming T&E your cpc should be in the region of 1.04 ohms given the resistance of the neutral. So perhaps there is a loose connection on the neutral?

if you have 230v on both cables then you should have continuity, only other thing i could possibly think of or suggest, is turn off all the other breakers in the board, except the supply to the ring and see if you still have 230v on both cables

if you do, then you have a big problem and should run very fast away from the premises screaming with your hands in the air!

performing evasive manouveres whilst carrying out the above action may help to accentuate the gravity of the situation... :)

could be parallel paths, i wouldn't probably focus on the ring continuity first myself

With the cpcs removed from the Earth bar to measure end-to-end resistance (r2) I can't see how there could be parallel paths.

If I am getting this correctly

You tested for continuity and had none on the lives at a socket
You tested for supply voltage on both ends at socket and had supply voltage
Tested elsewhere after putting it together and had ring continuity

For those tests to be accurate the problem has to be at that socket
A broken conductor at the socket that connects when the socket is closed perhaps
Otherwise I'm stumped

quite simple really, think about it. he didn't describe the installation

confused as to why were you testing end to end continuity at a socket outlet? wouldn't you have performed this test at the board, then made your way around checking the continuity of 'the ring'

just curious
