Hi, I'm a DIY'er but not a DIY electrician. I have a 3.5kW oven (15A min. 20A max. fuse) and want to connect a separate 7.4kW hob on the same 40A kitchen circuit. Looking at other posts in this forum it looks like it’s ok with a dual outlet, but do you need the cable dia. To check this first, or is it 6mm standard?

Also (Q.2) There’s currently one 13A socket on this loop. Can I keep this on this loop or is it mandatory that it goes on a separate loop (I’d like to keep it as it is if possible)?

Advice on either question gratefully received. Hoping to understand what I’m asking for before getting it connected.

6mm cable will be OK as long as it's not run in insulation. partly buried in masonry wall is fine. you could even downsize the MCB to32A. what is the 13A socket for?

Thank you. 13A socket just for kitchen appliances - toaster, that sort of thing. It's the only socket on this loop.

What do you mean by “a socket on the loop?”
Is this socket built into the cooker switch plate, or somewhere else on the cooker circuit?

It’s not a “loop”, I guess you are thinking of a ring? It’s not a ring either. It’s a radial circuit.
Sorry to to be pedantic. As above, the circuit should be ok with those two appliances including the socket.

I have no problem with a bit of pedantry ;-) I probably do mean a radial circuit - new terminology for me. Thanks for your advice, much appreciated.
