looks like it might be an overload

Yep think your'e right

I'm not convinced, although I can't see very much on this little screen and I can't read what's written on it. It has one input and one output, but the power circuit doesn't go through it. Are you thinking it has an external CT with a single output? To the left is what seems to be a phase loss / sequence detection relay. I wish I could read the symbols.

Just come back to this again and noticed the control circuit doesn't seem to leave the box, only two 4-core cables that look like a TP+N power circuit. I'm going to guess it is a voltage sensing relay, which in tandem with the phase sensing relay energises the contactor to energise a load when the supply is within limits. The aux contacts on the contactor perhaps bypass one or other condition according to whether the load is already energised.

I wonder whether the furry bits visible underneath indicate the system is intended to be supplied by a generator? OP: what is the application of this unit? Can you post a picture that shows the schematic symbols and terminal numbers on the front of the device? Do you think it is faulty?

Why don't you go to the Legrand web site and input the number on the front next to the Legrand logo

I think that, this is an old device, on legrand web site the identification code of the device is not available.

Can only guess from the info
Don't know the required cable colours in Mauritius, but it looks like blue is one of the outgoing phases.

there, is a mistake in this installation, in Mauritius colour code for 3 phase supply is brown, black, grey and blue for neutral.

do trhe furry legs dance when you push in the contactor?

It is a delay timer....used for keeping equipment of contactors on for set periods.....the small dial sets the time period..1min, 2mins etc

Looks like any standard din rail mounted timer to me.

Obviously used to keep something off or on for a set period of time after a switch has changed state.

Maybe to keep the lights on for a while or even to delay a specific bank of lights being turned on.

OK, if it's a timer, and if the control circuit is only within the box, and the thing next to it is a phase failure relay, then perhaps its function is to prevent immediate restart of the compressor against head pressure in the event of a supply glitch. Compressors are normally thermally protected against stalling but if the power supply is unreliable then this would make sense.

Thanks for the link, sorry I'm viewing this site on a dim 4" screen on an embedded computer in a rack and can't see much detail in anything.

DIYers again, eh ?
