Hi lads

Been in my new job a week and a bit and it's tough going. I have a few college courses to go alongside it. I have done my apprenticeship in electrical installations.

Basically I'm after any literature for an electrical engineer. For plcs and testing of electrical circuits in machinery.

I have looked at google before I get hammered for it haha. Just interested to see what you lads would recommend.

Thanks Rob

1st off you need BBC news on your office computer.
Have a coffee whilst reading the morning news before you start..........essential that is.

Then get the 'live streaming' cricket on the sports page and be pedantic and check the score every 20 minutes..........with a coffee of course.

Apart from that ...............bluff and bull**** as much as poss and if you get stuck come on here someone will tell you what to do.................enjoy:)

Haha I like your thinking fella. Although I have production operatives and their managers wanting things every five minutes.

Ruins sky sports news and my brew ;)

Electrical Engineering is a whole new level and training and is one of the area's of our trade that fortunately hasn't been dummed down, if your only qualified in electrical installations then its a good start for a background of electrics but you are many yrs of training and experience away from machinery and control systems, when you got this job did you explain your level of training and that it does not cover these areas.... deffo shouldn't be going into control systems without the experience and training you require...

I might sound a bit blunt but machinery isn't something to go into half cocked or you'll end up deep in doo doo.

Ps what are these courses your doing along side your new job?

That's not nice and it's also inaccurate, Friday is the day for engineers to watch live cricket at the local ground, no engineer worth his salt would be listening on the radio, that would indicate poor time management and planning :).

Seriously though, an engineer qualification will involve 3-5 years full time learning depending at what level you enter etc. There's also the option to do an HND part time then go on to complete your bachelors degree later which was the way I was qualified.

It's because we're on opposite sides of the equator everything's in reverse, our water swirls around the plug hole in a different direction and golf day around here is Thursday.

Darkwood. I don't mind the bluntness I appreciate it if anything.

I explained my experience of domestic and a bit of industrial installation etc. I've basically walked into an apprenticeship and I'm on apprenticeship wages.

I'm off to college soon to sort day or block release.

I just wanted to make a good start on reading up etc.
