Hi everyone,

I have a job tomorrow where I have to replace some old non maintained, non functioning emergency luminaires in a church hall. They currently have no key switch test facility so I also need to install this. Is it acceptable to install the key switches next to the consumer unit serving the lighting circuits from which the ELs are fed, to interrupt the supply to said circuits (normal lighting included), or is it preferrable to install local key switches to each luminaire? (Alot more work!) Worried about the implications of interrupting the normal lighting while testing ELs.

Cheers

There must be 2 existing permanent feeds, one supplying the light switch, and one supplying the emergency light....both are either connected to the mcb, or linked across the light switch. So either fit keyswitches at db board, or fit dual switch/keyswich at existing light switch.

Unless it's like one of my regular customers where the feed just goes from MCB to em light to switch to next switch to em light etc etc (conduit and singles) so we can't seperate them out without significant alterations.

There is a unit inside, which you preset the test timer, say 6 months.....the unit dissconnects the battery, and tests it. At the same time it measures the light intensity of the lamp. if battery or lamp fail, a red led comes on.

Great thanks sounds good, I'll look into it.

The staff still need to spot and act on the flashing red led. I spotted two in a branch of a well known national spiced chicken restaurant and the manager thought it was something to do with the heating. A note went into head office, and I have been offered a free meal. I suspect the oversight was repeated across their whole estate....

Thats the problem....Advanced make an addressable em monitor, which is just like a fire panel. it test battery an lamp at preset dates, and zones. Then either displays or prints results. Used a few in large train stations.
