ok, asked to look at a job over phone today, site visit mon, big extension, kitchen etc, wants 36 downlighters.

They have to be fire rated!

Any pointers on any reccommended low energy lights, or LED equivilant that wont break the bank?

Ie any that u have used and were impressed with. The local CEF do AURORA so will get catalogue on mon before i go?

cheers

Something like this?

I've just looked through my Aurora low energy LED book trying to find something fire rated, and have just noticed they do a Fire Rated books on it's own.

Aurora are good, but in the wholesalers there usually top end of the price range and I'm sure you'll find other manufactures just as good and save yourself a few bob!

Used JCC fittings a few times, I think there good

I used JCC fittings in a pub last year, they were quite nice.

what u think about low voltage transformered fittings against 230v?

Just another thing to go wrong, hate the damn things.

You should be able to squeeze some decent discount when ordering 36 lights in one hit.

With the old dichroic/halogen downlights, using LV was more common as they gave a brighter light off than the 230V. The 230V always seemed more dull wattage for wattage. However in recent years as transformers seemed to become less reliable I ended up advising 230V where possible as it was something less to go wrong.
I haven't noticed much difference myself between LV and 230V lamps with regard to low energy. If I was to use LV fittings, I would most definitely go for a reliable brand.

For me Fitting GET 12v transformers with the JCC lights seems a whole lot more reliable than 240v. Anybody I talk to about their 240v downlights say their lamps blow constantly.

i like the JCC fire rated downlights too, they have a decent size terminal block which makes it easier to fit if you have a loop in system. I use the the JJC with 4w Kosnic LED GU10 lamps. I think CEF do the Kosnic lamps around 12 quid each, plus the vat. They are expensive but worth it with the energy saving and the fact they last much much longer!

I personally wouldnt go for low voltage!

At 4W and a life of about 14 years in average domestic use, I remember reading the payback is around 2 years for the Kosnic LED GU10.

I've bought them for £10.00 + VAT at quantities of 50+ and with the eventual demise of the filament lamp, we are actively 'promoting' these fittings on all lighting replacement/upgrade contracts.

I Like the robus down lighters decnt termial and the spring clips strong never had a problem , in about to install some 7 watt led down lighters ment to be the equivallent to a 50 watt but they are £35.00 each and i cant for the life of me remember what make they are

cheers guys, have used jcc before, but most customers dont like paying for LED bulbs etc, however, after all ur feedback i think im going to try and steer this way from now. Halogen are fine but if somebody is spending £40K on an extension and new kitchen then pushing for these type of lights are a must. cheers.

I'm no eco-warrior but once clients actually understand the double benefits of lamp life AND very low consumption, they tend to warm to the concept and that's a good point about the extension cost!
