So Ive just bought a house and Im going to replace the fuse board as its ancient!

Just need to be sure on what i need to buy and how i need to go about splitting circuits properly.

It looks like its a 6 way and a or 4 way (does that look right?) - pic below

So lets say we have 10 circuits.. I will also be adding 2 - maybe more. 1 for a shower and 1 for a saniflo toilet system

----

Would it be right to get one big CU to replace these two - say one big 15 way board (want to leave some spare for future) a crabtree starbreaker 15 for instance

And the next question is what is the proper way to split the circuits and what will need to be RCD protected and which will not..

At first glance i think the circuits will be as follows; Upper ring - Lower ring - Kitchen - upper lights - lower lights - shower - saniflow - boiler - alarm system

Dont hate me for my ignorance, i am an electrician but i havent touched domestic in... ever! :33::ninja:

Also, all the cables are relatively new, all twin and earth - looks like it was rewired 5-10yrs ago but the board was lazily left out!

If theres any info ive missed just say

any help would be MUCH appreciated as i have to start digging into my wallet for materials pretty soon!

thanks!

Mine is too. :)

As I've said before on this board; Pert P exists ONLY because WE allow it to.

Withdraw our support of it & that's the end of it.

And how do you get that to happen? The scams love it and they back it up every year on consultations by playing the safety card, but the scams are telling there installers they are with us on it against the part p they just say what you want to hear

But in the mean time say 10 years down the line you have a fire and its cause could be attributed to any electrical work not certified at that time then your insurance wont pay out regardless of your compliance with the regs or competence . The risk is all yours sorry to say bud.

I personally don't understand all the hate for part P? If work no longer needed to be carried out to a standard and signed off why would anyone need an electrician? All new builds would be wired by the builder, or the plumber, and every extension wired by the home owner. Part P certificates brings work to us because nobody else can do it?

There isn't actually any hate for part P itself. I think that most of us agree that in principal it is a good thing. The problem comes from the fact that while many of us spend a fortune getting registered and doing things "by the book", there are loads of chancers out there who aren't part P registered, don't own test gear, don't provide certificates and don't notify work, and as a result can undercut us at every turn. Yes, there have always been these people, but what is really frustrating for us is that nobody in authority is policing these guys who break the law.

id say most chancers are part p,quick course litle knowledge, part p,new tester and off they go...or the qualified spark doing a bit of work without telling the council..which is the worst crime

In my experience, the majority of guys who don't bother getting registered (and I don't mean industrial sparks doing some work in their own home) don't bother issuing certs either when doing notifiable work, as they don't want to be traced.
All I ask is that we have a level playing field when competing for work.
