Went to job today lady said when the heating had been on for a few hours the ring main tripped taking the rcd with it the boiler is on a separate mcb any ideas

Are the FRC and boiler on the same RCD?

Maybe it has nothing to do with the boiler?
Customers are not always accurate with their information.i.e. something else may have been on, fridge, a fan etc

First thing to learn is NEVER trust the ocupier... Second thing is Trust the test gear. Third thing,,, and the most important and this is where most go wrong................. Get the Test gear out the van,It wont bite,, unless its on IR at 500 + then its amusing, But it will help you more than the ocupier....

Testing is all very well if you can assure all is disconnected , but you can get readings from elements ,motors etc , which can be misleading

If the customer really wants you to fix the issue they should allow you to do what you need.

thats wher experiance comes in. RCD tripping times at x 1/2 x 1 and x 5.. IR between Line+N and E.. these readings will point you to your goal. wish i could be more helpfull, but im sure someone will

you could have a trapped cable in back of a socket. heating warms up the house, cable and back box expand .... fault.

If it's not the actual heating electrics .......

Earth bonding / heating pipes moving about

( is anyone else present who hate's it HOT ! )

When you say ring main tripped taking rcd with it do you mean the mcb tripped aswell?

Unplug all appliances on ring main then test ir at250
