I have a shed 100 yards from my house (a big garden and a big shed) I want to run a 4.00mm2 2 core armoured cable on the surface of my lawn near the fence around my roses up to the shed, In the shed I intend to install a 10 way fuse box which will have 5 ways used and 5 unused (future expansion) the 5 ways will be for the following
(1) 6 amp lighting= 2 6ft twin fluorescents and 2 500 watt flood lights, 1mm2 twin and earth
(2) 32 amp power=2 double sockets for 2 chest freezers, 4mm2 radial in twin and earth
(3) 32 amp power=3 double sockets for woodwork lathe, piller drill, kettle, angle grinder, microwave and 40" TV, 2.5mm2 ring main in twin and earth
(4) 6 amp =security alarm , 75 flex and alarm cable
(5) 6 amp=smoke/ heat alarms, 1mm2 pyro

My main question is I am also having a sink up there for washing hands and boiling a kettle, will the armoured being 4mm2 be enough for the main bond? and would I have to install a rod for the earth to my new fuse box or will I be able to use the armoured and PME it from the house?

Last question will I have to have my pat testing certificate as well as my part P certificate which I got from gloucester skill centre over 34 days which cost me 8 grand? My tutor said I was ready to start my own company and this will be my demo install for my napit application.

Many thanks go easy I am newly qualified to 17th edition and keen to learn.

one of the few times i could actually enjoy being a mod. and moving this to the looney forum. can you not go back to work full time. you might get some practical experience. no way is that 4mm going to be big enough. the bible says not less than 6mm. ( that's about 1/4" in english).

Is this your shed or the shed at Kingsholm?

This is very interesting as I live in a shed and have a house 100m away at the bottom of my garden.
Would I be able to reverse this process and run power to the house from my shed?

Very good question, Hopefully one of the more experienced guys can help, I will ignore posts 3 and 4, bloody peasants  any idea on what the cost would be?

i would crack on as they say here...........nowt wrong with your proposal. One thing though....I'd move cable away from said roses, a lot of pricks there!
that could be a thorn in your installation.

fit solar panels to shed, then use the surplus to feed the house.

Just had a PM from a member here, what's volt drop? so I can look as if I am aware of it before I reply, cheers again

yah. don't worry about volt drop. use 110V equipment.

A chemist, a biologist and an electrical engineer were on death row waiting to go in the electric chair.
The chemist was brought forward first. "Do you have anything you want to say?" asked the executioner, strapping him in. "No," replied the chemist. The executioner flicked the switch and nothing happened. Under this particular State's law, if an execution attempt fails, the prisoner is to be released, so the chemist was released.
>Then the biologist was brought forward. "Do you have anything you want to say?" "No, just get on with it." The executioner flicked the switch, and again nothing happened, so the biologist was released.
Then the electrical engineer was brought forward. "Do you have anything you want to say?" asked the executioner. "Yes," replied the engineer. "If you swap the red and the blue wires over, you might make this thing work."

Just thinking Murdoch?

I think Tel is up for the works MDJ.. He is an expert in sheds as he drives one. Wooden wheels and all

it's better now. just had blow -up tyres fitted.

Isn't a bunk up classed as wheel chair access?

Have you thought about an extension lead? Its a smaller csa and in a pretty blue colour? Plus far easier to terminate in to a plastic consumer unit, but get a metal one as plastic ones are soon to start catching fire.

Reading this lot, I may even start watching Gloucester......then again, shreks can fly.:icon12:

You need to join the trainee section, they will teach you all you need to know.

The OP is already a Mentor in there.
I find it deeply disturbing that a mentor requires such basic training himself!!!
