Hi all just joined,for some where to talk about all I see here, there are 2 kinds of problems here the French diy's and the English diy's anyone who can pick up a screwdriver can work on there own or any-ones electric installations, A good idea? just to make things more fun most of the older houses have a 3 phase supply.
I went to a house the other week and here you buy the supply by the kw so if the demand goes over that the whole installation trips, they had a 3 phase 30A per phase supply, when I got there they where only using one of the phases so when demand got to 30A it tripped, the other 2 phases had been left hanging outside the box without the ends even taped up, so if anyone had touched them they would have had a bit of a shock and if both at same time not good, guy that had did it say it a diy handyman said he did not understand 3 phase so did not know what to do with the other 2 phases! more tails to come

Welcome to the forum mate..

Welcome along.
DIY is always interesting with the inventive ways they come up with to make things more dangerous and difficult.

Welcome along Mon Ami, hope that's the correct spelling never did French at School,

Did you give your client the message;

Welcome to forum Ian,

Read your horror story with interest... If I've understood correctly, an unqualified "handyman" left two live mains cables unterminated outside a house... ? Shocking! :astonished:

Kind regards NB

thanks all for you welcome, another problem I found this year some-one had put the control box for the swimming pool on a 3 phase socket but had got the plug and socket the wrong way round so you had live pins when you pulled it out. When I checked it out they just used 1 phase but had not taken a earth to the pool or even put in a earth rod, there was just no earth, the woman at the house said the guy that put it in really know what he was doing and it took so time to for her to except it was luck no one had been hurt
