Rant warning!!

Twice in as many weeks I've had to put right the work of local 'handymen' and also the work of a 'part p' plumber, who after cocking it up completely and leaving a minor works cert for fitting an instant water heater, complete with new circuit wired into the hob mcb, then stuck a lovely 'next inspection due in 10 years' sticker on the front of the board! People hire these clowns to get a job done cheaper and moan like buggery when I turn up and quote them to put it right. I seem to be encountering this sort of thing more and more, has anybody else noticed this? I've also had a plumber on a job telling me what the Earthing requirements for the new consumer unit will be, and then trying to quote the customer and undercut me for replacing it after I had gone. A PLUMBER! That's it, I'm sacking the boy and going to work at tesco!

every day fella.

was the property in question a rented place?

was that plumber prattling on about crossbonding under his boiler?...

or was this a main earthing issue with him?

The water heater job was yes, the landlord rang me as the tenant had reported the hob not working and no hot water, got there to find the mcb tripped and the rest speaks for itself!

He was telling me what size Earthing conductor I should be using and that I must run all extraneous bonds separately, and into the new board. Except he called them 'externalus bonding'

ask him to show by calculation (adiabatic) what CSA main earthing conductor size you could use....

see how he copes...

I used to know someone called "Externalus Bonding" he was an outdoor underwater spy.......tumble weed...........wind whisteling etc....

Him, IT MUST BE 16MM!
Me, but the tails are 16mm....

well yet again its botty hole talk...isn`t it caus if he had any clue on how to apply the adiabatic then he would know that for an 80A BS1361 the CSA required for 5 sec dis time would be 8.94mm....so a 10mm main earthing conductor will suffice...

........no sympathy for people who hire under qualified clowns, pay £20 and then have to pay 5-10 times that to put it right,......they will learn the hard way.....anyway, let um keep on doing it, more work for the real electricians putting it right,...and let um moan about cost,...just remind um how much they paid for their telly, ipad, smartphone,...etc.......BOOM!...you win on principal!

They bring it all on themselves
