Afternoon Com padres,

I really want to do the 2394 and 2395 testing and inspecting courses, and have noticed that the NICEIC now have an online course facility.

What this does is cuts down the amount of classroom hours getting taught the theory, and substituting it with an online based learning course.

There are still days in a center though to do the practical side of the course.

Has anyone done this? Is it worth a shot?

Seems to be a more flexable way of doing the training.

Thanks

Those hours in a class with a tutor explaining things is crucial for courses like testing.
I wouldnt do an online ( self -taught ) course unless i was really comfortable in understanding the basics already.
And if the NIC course is just their own version of 2391 / 4 / 5 , dont bother , it wont be recognised by the industry.

Thanks for the reply guys, you get a city and guilds certificate out of it.
I feel as though Im up to the challenge, the practical side is still taught in the college, it just means that the 2 days of theory are self taught, but I checked the demo of the lessons and its like a virtual classroom, supported by email and phonecall backup.

My problem is that all the centres for the exams are down south, so may need to book some accomodation!

Surely the cost of accommodation out weighs the cost of doing the course at a local college and ensuring you have as much support as needed?

Not saying you won't pass if you don't but there is nothing better than having several opinions in a classroom to get the right answer.

I live in Scotland and nowhere seems to do it up here!

I dont want to do the 2391 if its gonna be outdated soon,

a tricky one gentlemen...

The 2391, wills still a recognised course even when phased out. Remember the old 2360 which is worth a damn site more than todays equivalent.

I did my courses at a local college, and as well as the course material, I got a lot out of the questions the other guys asked and the answers and discussions that followed (the tutor was interested too, and there was the time, within reason) - typically unusual things they'd come across, unusual measurements, what code would you give something and why, and so on. You wouldn't get that from an online course, I suspect.

Update: Sorry, only saw you are in Scotland after posting.
