Hi everyone, I have just received a copy of a visual inspection on a student house and one of the items high lighted for replacement is the immersion heater as it has no over heat cut out, is this necessary ? thanks

can just replace the stat with one with a overheat. 5 minutes.

Yes, potential scalding situation.

This one really arose because, if the thermostat sticks and no overheat cutout, you can get boiling water up the vent pipe and into the header tank. If it's made of polythene, it may eventually fail and come down through the ceiling. I understand that a child was killed this way.
