I run a small data installations company and regularly get asked to do additional sockets, ring mains, lighting alterations, etc whilst on site doing the data cabling. Sometimes this leads to me not getting jobs as using a contractor to do the electrical work pushes my price through the roof. I'm hoping to do a course whilst working full time that will enable me to carry out this type of work as well as domestic work legally and to be covered through the relevant government bodies i.e NICEIC. Can anyone tell me the base level qualifications that would allow me to legally undertake these jobs. I have looked at doing a course which is a mixture of distance learning and workshop learning that would gain me:

n
EAL VRQ Level 2 Certificate for Domestic Electrical Installers
n
City & Guilds 2382-10 Level 3 Certificate in the Requirements for Electrical Installation
(17th Edition)
n
City & Guilds 2392-10 Level 2 Certificate in the Fundamental Inspection, Testing and
Initial Verification
n
City & Guilds 2391-10 Level 3 Certificate in Inspection, Testing and Certification
of Electrical Installations
n City & Guilds 2377-12 Level 3 Certificate for the Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment

Would this be overkill or not enough???
At £6k I don't want to make a mistake i'll end up regretting. All contributions would be much appreciated!

400 hours theory and 4 weeks practical. Can do it at my own pace which is the big advantage of this over other courses i've found

EAL installer, inspection & testing and 17th ed is enough to do what you require. NICEIC/NAPIT etc assessment involves evidence of practical work, knowledge of regs, test equipment, and insurance.

as above also 2M insurance, your own 17th ed test kit, and certificates of work. ie get most or all of study done start doing the work and get it notified to local authority building control (LABC) and the nic or whoever will inspect that work. everyone wants your money off you then you can advertise as part p registered
