relay or contactor?

if i wanted the garage lights to come on when the electric door opened would i use a contactor or relay ? whats the differance?

hi what is voltage of garage door control cable 'i.e 230v /24vdc

if 230v would use a 230v coil contactor time delayed so when door close light stay on

would be simpler to fit a PIR so that the light came on on entry, either pedestrian or car.

is the time delayed part incorporated into the contractor or do you put that in separately?

pir's not good as they complain about fox's etc setting it off

go for a 360 ceiling mounded in garage so when door open light come on

i mean a PIR inside the garage. if foxes are getting in there, they've got a problem that isn't electrical.

lol good idea but there's a couple entrance's to the garage which would be a blind spot to the pir

I took mine from a light which was already on the garage door opener and already had a time delay through a relay which feeds a twin flourescent
