I used the first letters of my siblings names: DSJ. A sparks I knew used the first letters of his wife and two children: JMC. Just an idea that might work.

It's call your self your name like I do, works for me and many others. My theory was if you call your self some random name like DZJ Electrical, people will find it hard to remember, I befriend every customer and build a relationship with them I guess you could say, they know my name is Tom and I'm an electrician, all they then need is Google if they need me, easily found.

the need for a fancy sounding name and a shiny van are for the 5 week wonders

Starting out as an undercutter as a business model will soon see you annoying your peers and being seen as a soft touch by customers. Don't start giving away your money before you have earned it.

What I did when I started out. Figured out an hourly and daily rate based on projected earnings throughout the year taking into account local average rates.
I didn't offer to be the cheapest knowing that there are guys out there working on benefits and paying no tax.

Gasp, "electrics" sounds very Part P, I would recommend "Electrical Contractors or "electrical services" lol, I hate the word "electrics", lets start a campaign so the mods use the swear filter every time it is mentioned psml.

Be careful you don't make it too long... when filling out bank card details etc you usually have a limited number of letters you can use and writing long titles out for yrs on end can be frustration.

Short and catchy is good or as mention use your name which expresses a pride and comes across more trusting ...e.g. Mike Blair Electrical shows you don't hide behind a logo or non discript title and is good if domestic is your target audience.

If you use your name it goes well with adding ' for that personal service' this has worked for thousands of workers in many trades...

If your base is commercial or Industrial you be better sounding like a large company and not a one man band... So M.B.E. services...you get my drift.

When I had to start out on my own I was flumoxed on what to use,I thought about surname,initials etc,but went for a split of my kids name and something electrical in it,job done,having seen an ad on the tv recently Id love to roll back the clock and call myself FERGAL SPARKY having that on the side of your van would certainly turn heads,and maybe get some work.
