This is a challenge for both Trainees and Mentors alike.

Terminate a ceiling rose with a loop in/out using twin & earth and lets see how good you can do it? Easy challenge for all of us and I'm expecting nothing but excellence from the mentors . Marvo, Sintra, Sirkitbreaker, Tel, you have all been nominated to have a go and show us your install lol. (this should be interesting?)

I've already posted up my picture on another thread but I will have another go and have a bit of fun with it later in the week.

Edit:- A prize is up for grabs for the best Trainee ceiling rose picture!

The forum sponsor Test-Meter has donated a great prize just for the Trainee section! Almost £100 worth of a multimeter that any Electrician would love to have. Get your pictures up.

Here is my effort:-

Just noticed that there is too much copper showing on the terminals DOH. I'll give myself (as a professional electrician) 9 1/2 out of ten lol.

Come on lads, show us how it is done

I'll have a go when I can find the box of roses in my van!

My van is still at the garage (5 weeks now [insert swear word here] :censored: ) and all my stuff is in the house and Mrs. M is not impressed! In the effort to get rid of some of it I've filled a box to give to Steve for his practice board.

HT, looking forward to your picture and the other Mentors. I knew this would be interesting

Come on Trainees, show us lot what you are made of!?!?

Give me a week or 3 i have about 25 to do for real, i will post up my best effort.

OK, paul. you asked for it. i make no excuses for the red/black. it's just the 1st bit that came out the scrap bin. it's not perfect but that's ageing eyes and 6 pints to blame for that. pendant flex left out for clarity ( not really, coz. i'd pinched it for a repair lasst week)

Nice, now lets see you terminate 21 circuits into a 4 way Wylex rewireable fuse board, only joking mate. My house was wired like this though when i bought it, wish i had photo'd it all those years ago before i replaced it, the new (10 years ago) CU is all neat and tidy 'ish', just need to get round to testing it some time!

Cheers.............Howard

This feels like telling the Head Master off but here goes.....

Pig tailing!!! I'm sure there is a reg regarding the bending of wires/cable???? 4 times the width???? Glenn could tell you all about it lol! Its his birthday tomorrow btw, send him a card Tel  I'll ask Glennsparks to wire up a ceiling rose and I'll post it up in here later in the week.

I knew this thread would be interesting

Now what would happen if you shoved a ferrite core through those loops?

Nothing. The equal balance of positive and negative would not produce a magnetic field for a ferrite core to pick up (so I believe? Correct me if I'm wrong mate)

Archey, are you going to post up a picture of your ceiling rose talents? When we were all younger, that would have meant something else

See you in Manchester in a few weeks if I can (99% sure atm)

Not done any celing roses like this in a while, This is from my first ever house rewire about 3 years ago, dont do many of these now adays seen as i usually do commercial but you get the odd one or 2

Baker. That is a sexy ceiling rose! 10/10

Other Trainees dont have your amount of time on the tools and your experience. No one should be shy in posting up their photo's of their work whilst in training, this is your forum and nothing bad will ever happen to you for posting up anything. Trust me, the Admin and Mods keep a very close eye on the T/S to make sure that nothing nasty is posted. In all the time that this section has been on line, not a single person has been banned, told off or rejected. Reason for that is because we choose the Mentors very carefully and only give access to Trainees that are in education.

This section of the biggest Electricians Forum in the UK is probably the friendliest on the world wide web. Its yours to use, you have our attention, use it!!!

Dont be shy, post up your photo's even if you know that they are not as good as others, no one will give you a hard time for it, only positive feed back. GO FOR IT.

add a variable capacitor and you might just be able to pickmup rock radio ( real xsas it is now).

We don't use ceiling roses here, I just had a look through my catalogs and the only supplier I have that sells them is RS Components so I'm going to wait for the next challenge before I post my effort I'm afraid :(

The forum sponsor Test-Meter will donate a small prize for the best Trainee picture. They dont it yet but they will. I'll make a phone call to Mr. J in the morning and see what I can get for you. I'll end up owning them a favor, but it is worth it for you lot.

Thanks for the nomination Paul..... :p

OK, we'd be very happy to sponsor this thread - Paul can you please make it sticky so it attracts as many entrants as possible.

We've got a couple of prizes up for grabs:

1) A 1kV CEM insulation resistance tester (tests at 250, 500 & 1000V) supplied with a personalised calibration certificate;
2) A Martindale MM53 Digital Multimeter supplied with a toolbelt carry case/holster.

You can distribute the prizes as you will.

Good luck everybody!

Do we think it would be worth moving this into the general forum??, wider coverage and could be good fun, with a big emphasis on zero tolerance for the usual behaviour. Or do we want it left as is...............

Btw......awesome idea!!

Just spoken with Test Meter and seen has they have donated two great prizes we think having this in the TS and another in the general forum would be best.
Making both a Sticky is a great idea.

Well said Simon. By the way I have to take out my entry to this competition due to my link to the sponsor, besides I've got a £300 multimeter and Test-Meter have given me a discount for my MFT calibration (that I got off them).

The prize for you guys is worth just short of £100!!! Have a look:- http://martindale-electric.co.uk/specifications/specMARMM53.pdf

A very nice bit of kit and any Electrician would be happy to have that in their tool box/bag. Lets keep this competition going for another 4-6 weeks and we will see how many entries we have and make a decision from there as a collective group. As I say, its your forum, you help run it so its your choice.

Yeah that sounds fair Paul. Hopefully we get some more people posting there pics. :)

I should have posted this up last week but I got side tracked with loads of other things so sorry Trainees.

RULES:-

It has to be your own work. Dont ask your boss or one of the lads on site to do it for you lol.

It has to be a 3 plate pendant or baton with loop in & loop out + switch wire in T&E (double brown T&E is fine).

Test-Meter will be the judge on this and the General forum competition (not started yet, need to look into the legal side of things). They have a man that teaches their technical staff and he used to be a 2391 (2394/5) instructor. He will judge this competition and it is completely independent from the forum. Cant get any fairer than that.

Trainees can post up more than one photo so if you want to have another go at it please feel free. (generl forum members only have one shot at it btw because they are working Electricians).

Test-Meter or myself will post out the prize.

Have a go at it, nothing to loose and it is a bit of fun that may win you a great prize. Good luck

Because this competition was running at the time of the great prizes offer, I have to keep it going and adjust the rules like I have done above. The other comp in the general section will start once we have had some advice on the legal side of things. Just so you all know why it has not been started yet.

you think yours are bad? some of the ones ive seen make the ones in professional mag look well professional XD

Yep, rats nests on ceilings. Looks like the Trainees are doing better than the practicing sparks out in the real world, that is a great standard to have, well done all of you so far but more of you need to post up your pictures.
