Hi all, Im 27 from Southport, and am an Electrician, Completed my NVQ L3 about 3 years ago and have been wiring industrial control panels for around 6 years now.

Ive been given the chance to do my 2394 and 2395 in the next couple of months and was wondering what wage people are on after they have completed these courses?

Thanks Ry

as much as you can screw out of tight fisted employers. not less tha £15/hour, IMO.

Ha, Im pretty sure I wont be getting that, Im currently on 9pph, which for a Panelwireman I think is okay as it is a small company. But as an Electrician I think this is pretty poor. The JIB say something like 14pph. The main problem is that we dont do a lot of installation work its mostly workshop based where I think there is less money. Any more opinions on this matter would be very helpfull people.

agree. a site i worked on a few years ago the panel wiremen were on £11/hour. that was in 1998.

My mate wires panels for a well known company from South Wales, and hes on £13ph in the workshop and then JIB rates when on site.

Thats what Im thinking, and I dont just wire panels, I have to look after 2 Apprentices and answer phones etc etc. I dont like to moan and I know where still in a recession but I still think im bieng taken for a ride here.

put it this way, if u seen your job advertised at £9an hour would u apply for it? I think your being under valued mate. Id try and either angle for a pay rise or get ur testing quals and start job hunting

not necessarily could have come through the ranks, i know when i did my apprenticeship with the local council their rates were all over the place, paid me more than the going rate each year of my apprenticeship and then lower when i got my time out.

I think you need to sit the gaffer down and get him to sharpin the pencil a bit more. Last time I checked NMW was 6 pound something an hour.
If they are paying to put you through 2394/2395 take it and then start job hunting lol

timbobelfast what part of kabul are you in mate? was there last year working, seen a few sites that ill never forget.

Camp Alamo inside KMTC in KBC. You certainly see some inventive work over here lol.

yeah indian electricians at their finest. i was in a camp off the jahallabad road working for supreme. We travelled in and out of the domestic airport, not advised for the feint hearted lol

Hmm interesting, I was thinking of staying with it and getting the courses done and then see what happens. At least he's paying for it. Worst case I suppose is I can do the courses and then go self employed. Keep the comments coming. Thanks Ry.
